110% Anderson Pylon

Getting ready to build the fuselage sides. Plans laid out and double layer of wax paper in place.

Fuselage verticals are all cut already and sanded to same length and angles, I find it far more accurate on this type of fuselage build from experience on Lazo Bomber builds.

Longerons are soaking in straight Windex for a day or two to make the bend at the front of the fuselage.  Hard 3/8 balsa longerons won’t make the bend without steaming or soaking.

I hope that after the side are built it will stay flexible enough to make the same bend when I join the built sides.

Also capped with 1/16 ply the root ribs of each wing half and sanded them to conform to the end ribs.

I’ve been criticized for having too clean of a shop.

Here’s proof of my building and balsa shaving!

By the way,  that’s probably $20 worth of balsa on the floor…..in shavings and dust…..

Just need to make the root rib Plywood 1/16” cap ribs and put on the cap strips.

Also note the $20 worth of balsa shavings on the floor!

110% Anderson Pylon (joining the wing tips)

I got the wing tips joined to the center on your Andersen Pylon……….

Have to put the transition ribs in and sheet the wing next.   The ribs as they are cut really have created problems.

I am cussing this model a lot, won’t be building another one of these.

I wonder if Jim O’Reilly drew and Holman cut a version of this model?

Jay:

Holman has the plans and short kit for the original 90-inch version.  I think this is what Glen used for his build.

You are doing a great job.  Thanks.

No, O'Reilly didn't draw this model and the kit from Holman uses the same John Pond plan.   I suspect he did a better job plotting the ribs.  There is a nice 50% Anderson Pylon plan on Outerzone.  Perhaps, doubling this one would be a better idea.

110% Anderson Pylon

I finished up the framing of the wing tips today.

The drawing issue strikes again!  The left tip plans are different than the right tip in the dimensions.

Looks like what I’m seeing is some kind of distortion in the copying of the plans and also where Harry Klarich put the spars and and the spar sizes. Totally different from the plans.

Also, since the leading edge is a piece of ½ x 1” balsa I had to kerf cut it all along to make the bend.

Anyhow,,,,,,,,making some progress.

110% Anderson Pylon (wing joining)

Here's where I have the real fun……………SURGERY?  Scalpel…………Hell NO,  we get to use a Radial Arm saw.

Hey you balsa butchers,  I know you're envious!

Another successful Wing bisection………..totally blood-less and just stick in the

Steel rods and it’s all joined back together……………So far the patient is still ALIVE!

Catch the latest is Bisection tools……….a 10” radial arm saw… a little 220V in the right place and there they are?

I finished sheeting the center section and sanded a little.

Next will be surgery for the wing bisection procedure.
