Stevens Aero FREDe 2X (part 11)

Hi Tom,

 I made some additions for the wing attachment. The male wing tabs were removed from the plywood which left perfect female pieces that could be made into receiving tabs for the male tabs epoxied into the bottom of the wing. Also made supports for the aluminum cross pieces. Threw a quick coat of paint on the struts attachments. Doug Delisanti told me to sharpen the ends of the pins to make it easier to insert through the wing tabs, strut holes and the aluminum tube. I am now able to attach the wing quite easily without the help from another person.

Stevens Aero FREDe 2X (part 10)

Hi Tom,

 Those strut connections are very difficult to attach to the wing. I may have to keep trying to attach the wing to get use to Steven AeroModel method of attachment. It took quite a while to get the covering tight with the Ultracote temperature instructions. Finally, I just upped the temperature to get the film tight. I will need the lozenge covering material for the fuselage and rudder. Check on it! I am unable to continue working on the FREDe2X. Also, I need the 15 x 8e prop to check the current draw on the systems to make sure it does not exceed the 54 amp rating of the ESC. That Is It For Now.

KOI was windy for the three contest days, but calm before and after; wouldn't you know. Good time had by all anyways. I expect more photos from Jim DeMeritte but seem to be delayed. Happy New Year!   ~ Gil

Hi Tom, I could not resists a quick assemble of the struts and attach the wing. Nothing is glued. It was quite a job to assemble.

Hi Tom,

 As you can see, the balance plug on the battery will not plug into the Electrifly Cell Match for checking each cell's voltage. But, it will plug into the 3S port on the HP/PQ Adaptor which comes with the HiTec 4x multi charger. The plug with the HP/PQ Adaptor will plug into the Electrifly Cell Match. Then, you read the voltage in each cell after a flight. Velcro was installed to hold the battery. One light shock on the fuselage and the battery broke loose. So I installed a keeper bar. It works great Also modified the stand for FRED. I decided to screw it to the cockpit floor. That way FRED could be removed to work on the servo tray a whole lot easier. The struts are painted black because I had a can of Design Master Flat Black. FRED looks great in the cockpit!
