Lanzo Record Breaker

Relegated to virtual obscurity following the discovery of the Lanzo Bomber and the Lanzo Airborn, the Lanzo Record Breaker was once a common sight at Old Timer events.

More construction photos of The Little Fat Sucker.
I install a piece of 3/32 plywood at the CG location on the wing center panel. Then you can screw an eye screw into the plywood at the CG point. As you can see from the photos you simple hang the model from the eye screw and check the CG fore and aft and side to side.
The wing mount was changed from using rubber bands to a bolt on wing mo
unt. The installation of triangular gussets in the top corners of the fuselage for the bolt on installation increased the strength of the cabin area. The plans called for no gussets and using flimsy plastic for side windows and the windshields.
I used Scotch Packaging tape to mount Velcro on. No need to dope or varnish the balsa surface. You put a piece of tape on the balsa wood. Then remove it to pickup balsa dust and loose slivers of balsa wood. Then put on a fresh piece of tape to mount the Velcro. This works fine for light weight articles such as the Spectrum receiver and the ESC unit.
The battery is mounted on plywood and the Scotch Packing tape is used to remove wood dust and plywood slivers. The Velcro is applied and CA around the edges. The battery is a heavy item (about 5 to 6 ounces). In a crash or rough landing you do not want that weight breaking loose and causing more damage then is necessary.
To be on the safe side, hooks were added to restrain the battery with rubber bands. The hooks are made with Stem Wire 20 Ga. It is soft iron wire and bends easily. Stem wire can be obtained at florist shops.
Remember - There are two types of airplanes - Those that have crashed and those that are going to crash!

Vic Smeed Popsie part 3

Scaled up to double size, gives some perspective
as to how portly this model is:

Hi Guys,
Just had to take photo of This Fat Little Sucker!
The Kit manufacturer can call it The Aesop.
Tom Ryan and Gene Wallock can call it The Popsie.
Bucky Walter calls it
The Fat Little Sucker
The kit did not contain the necessary 3/16 square to complete the construction.
Also the trailing edge piece was a wee bit too short for the wing & the spar material for the wing and stab was a wee bit too short also.
The tail wheel supplied was larger than shown on the plans. The wheels are a lighter substitute from E-Flite.
I was able to correct all the shortages of wood in the kit. Rest of the kit is excellent but these crazy English like to assemble then cover a model!

Vic Smeed Popsie part 2

Hi Guys,
Some photos of the Aesop or Popsie.
Stopped working on the fuselage. Waiting for servos which
are on order.
I will have plenty of room for the servos and any other thing I want to install in that huge fuselage.
Tom Ryan sent me the wheels which are light weight wheels for electric models.
I just had to send a few photos of the fuselage on my work bench.
Will start to work on the flying surfaces soon.

Middle Wallop December 2005

Here is a short movie of Model Flying at the International Coupe d'Hiver meeting held at Middle Wallop on 4 December 2005. (BBC South 6/12/05, copyright waived)

Various Power and Vintage classes were also flown that day as well as a general Sports Fly-in.

The weather was absolutely splendid and there were many people in attendance as can be seen in the video and particularly from the number of cars on the flight line.

Paul Plecan Tornado II part 2

Well guys:

The Paul Plecan Tornado II is almost complete. I have one rotten job to do - make a wind shield!

I have to be in a good mood to tackle that job. I am just about running out of steam on this project.

Small Electric Lanzo Airborn

Bucky,

We got our big snow just before Christmas on Long Island. Attached are a
couple of shots of our 24 inches --- what a mess! Fortunately yesterdays
storm passed south of us and into the Atlantic.

I just finished a reduced size replica old timer that might interest you. It
is Chet's AIRBORN, done at 200 square inches and weighing just 6.8 ounces
with 17 watts input power. This was scaled down from Jim O'Reilly 1/2A
Texaco plans and will be in the March issue of RC MICRO WORLD. This is the
fourth in my series, previously I did the PLAYBOY CABIN (which is now
available as a kit), Lanzo BOMBER and Gil Morris' KERSWAP. We are hoping to set up
a nationwide postal contest for this size old timer aircraft.

1/2 A Texaco Bomber

Tom,
Here are some pics of our 1/2 A Bomber. This airplane ended up taking first place in Old Timer at the
Toledo Expo a few years ago.
